Chelsea confirm Victor Moses’ loan switch to Fenerbahce

Chelsea have confirmed the loan departure of Victor Moses to Turkish giants Fenerbahce. The Nigeria international had struggled for game time following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri at the helm during the summer and this has eventually urged him to pursue a fresh challenge with Fenerbahce in Istanbul.

“Victor Moses has today joined Fenerbahce on loan until the end of the 2019/20 season. Moses, who joined the Blues from Wigan Athletic in 2012, was a key member of the Chelsea team which lifted the Premier League in 2017 and FA Cup in 2018, operating primarily as a right wing-back in a 3-4-3 formation. We wish Victor, a popular member of the squad, all the best on his loan deal in Turkey,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

Moses had been a fundamental figure under Antonio Conte during the past two seasons where he had regularly featured in the right wing-back role while securing the Premier League and FA Cup crowns in the process. However, the current campaign failed to pave the same way with new boss Sarri opting for the change of formation which thereby dropped Moses to the bench.

During the first half of the season, Moses managed just five appearances for the Blues across all competitions and among those, only one came from the starting lineup against Liverpool in the League Cup. As such, the Nigerian had little choice but to pursue another challenge and the move to Fener should offer him the much-needed playing time.

Fener have gone through a difficult season in the Turkish top-flight and they are currently lying in the relegation positions on goal difference. The Istanbul outfit have shown some resistance with regular draws during the past few weeks but they need to garner victories sooner rather than later to propel themselves away from the dreaded drop.
