NIGERIA’S OLA AINA MAKES HISTORY WITH THIS PL AWARD

Fulham United right-back Ola Aina has written his name in history books after bagging the Premier League goal of the month award. The young defender is a former Chelsea star having come through the youth ranks of the Blues at Stanford Bridge.

He is currently on loan at Fulham from Italian club Torino and he is already proving to be a good acquisition at the London club.

Aina is now officially the very first player to possess a Nigerian passport to win the prestigious Premier League goal of the month award ever since it was first rolled out in the 2016-17 season. His goal came in their clash against West Bromwich Albion on the second of November and has now been announced as the winner amongst others.

His great strike saw off competition from other goals scored by some of the League’s most porous forwards, including his fellow Nigerian who plays for Crystal Palace, EberechiEze, Manchester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez, Leicester City’s prolific striker Jamie Vardy, Danny Ings& James Ward-Prowse, both of whom play for Southampton, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Solly March, and then Leed’s United player Raphinha to claim the gong.

Aina’s goal against West Brom was Fulham’s second of the match, as he fired a thunderous shot into the top corner at the Craven Cottage stadium. It was his very first goal for the club after seven appearances.

The Nigerian became the third player from Fulham to be given the award. The first was Jean Michael Seri in 2018, and former Chelsea player Andre Schurrle who won the award in January 2019.

The goal was selected by a combined panel of experts who were involved in a public vote, and the scorer was the triumphant one amongst all eight competitors.
