Manchester City playmaker Yaya Toure is set to get a year extension after Coach Pep Guardiola had a change of heart, reports in England say.
After an altercation due to comments made by the player’s agent during an interview, Guardiola starved Toure of games in the first few months this season. They eventually sorted things out with Toure apologizing.
Guardiola eventually handed the Ivorian a start and he showed his quality as he grabbed a brace in the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in November. With time, Toure failed to keep it up and the former Barcelona and Bayern manager suggested that Toure’s fitness levels were low.
After summer addition Illkay Gundogan got injured, Guardiola had to call back Toure into action. The 33-year old has been decent hence Guardiola handing him an extra year. His current deal with City is set to expire this summer but with him outrightly rejecting move to America and China, there were limited opportunities. Toure insists he has two to three more years at the highest level in him.
Toure has been a brilliant player in the Premier League and he would go down as one of the best in the annals of its history. His £24million switch from Barcelona made waves then and he proved it upon arrival at the Etihad. There was the belief that he would move elsewhere at the end of the season but the Spaniard has mulled it over Switzerland Football Fans and deemed it fit to offer him an additional year as he continues building the ideal city squad.
