Chris Sutton believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will leave Arsenal

Former Celtic star Chris Sutton believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will head through the exit door after the recent comments made in the French media. The Gabon international has been reluctant to pen a new deal with Arsenal over the past year and that has led to suggestions that he could be heading through the exit door, particularly with his current contract due to expire at the end of next season.

In a recent interview, the 31-year-old confirmed that he has yet to negotiate a new deal with the Gunners and added that he would like to win things during the backend of his career. This has led to suggestions that he could move on from the capital outfit and Sutton believes a number of high-profile clubs could be looking to sign him in the next transfer window.

He told: “He [Aubameyang] is clearly unhappy, isn’t he? Because he did not have to say what he said. And if he wanted to win things, with the greatest respect, he wouldn’t want to sign for Arsenal again, would he? There will be other suitors who are after him. He’s 31… you can’t afford to hang around at Arsenal with their position at the moment. There’s always turmoil at Arsenal. This whole situation has come out of nowhere – for Aubameyang to come out and speak like that. He could have said nothing, the fact he was strong and talks about a turning point. It’s not about the money for him is it now? At his age, nearly 31, it’s about winning things. There’s gonna be some big-hitters in for him.”

Aubameyang has been fundamental in the Gunners’ goalscoring exploits over the past couple of years where he has bagged 61 goals across all competitions. He has netted 20 of those during the current campaign but the club have still struggled in the league due to the defensive vulnerabilities. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently ninth on the league table, eight points adrift of the top four. They are scheduled to face Manchester City on the road on June 17.
