AC Milan came into the final set of games in Group B with a chance to qualify for the next round. The Rossoneri needed to beat Liverpool at home to have any chance of moving into the knockout stage as far as this season’s Champions League is concerned. On their part, Liverpool had a perfect Champions League record and the target was to endthe group stage with a perfect record.

Milan needed to win as pointed out earlier and they took the lead through England international FikayoTomori. Ex-Chelsea centre back Tomori scored from close range to give the Rossoneri the lead on 28 minutes. The advantage lasted for eight minutes after African star Mohamed Salah scored the equaliser for Liverpool.

African football star Salah has been one of the best players in European football. The Egyptian national team star has scored 20 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season. His 20th goal for Liverpool this season came against Milan at the San Siro.

Liverpool then scored what proved to be the winner ten minutes into the second half through Belgian striker DivockOrigi. The ex-Lille star made it two goals in two games with his headed goal against Milan. Origi had earlier scored the lone goal in the game as Liverpool beat Wolves 1-0 away from home at the weekend to move within one point of top spot as far as the Premier League is concerned. The winning goal from Origi ensured that Liverpool finished their group stage campaign with maximum points.

In the other game in Group B, Atletico Madrid joined Liverpool in the round of 16 with a 3-1 away win over FC Porto with the two teams ending the game with ten men.
